Contoured Surface Testing

The Taber Linear Abraser (Abrader) was designed to test virtually any size or shape specimen. Unlike the Taber Rotary Platform Abraser (Abrader), the Linear Abraser (Abrader) is ideal for contoured surfaces and finished products.

Initially developed to perform wear resistance testing, interchangeable attachments are available to permit the testing of:

Rub Abrasion
Abrasion and Smudge Resistance of Images
Scratch Resistance (single or multiple pass)
Mar Resistance
Color Fastness / Transfer [commonly referred to as crocking or crockmeter]
Coin Scrape
Product on Product (i.e. cardboard on packaging to simulate shipping wear)

To generate useful data, specimens must be held firmly in place during testing. Taber offers a variety of Specimen Mounting options for this purpose. To ensure repeatable set-up, we recommend that the user develop a custom holding fixture.
