Cutting
Tools
Taber offers a variety of cutting tools for the Shear / Scratch
Tester.
The
precision ground, Tungsten Carbide Contour Shear tool (S-20) is
designed to shear a groove between 50 to 100 mils in width. This
tool features a cutting edge lapped to a 25mm radius with a 30°
clearance. The edge is set at a 22° shear angle in relation
to the rotation of the table.
To
evaluate a materials resistance to scratching, various diamond tools
are available:
The
Conical Diamond tools (139-55 and 139-56) are used for
scratching materials of ordinary hardness. These tools are precision
lapped to a 90° angle, and are available with a radius point
of 3 mil (139-55) or 3.5 mil (139-56).
The
Diamond Scratch tool (139-58) is used for scratch testing
unusually hard materials. This tool is the converging point from
three sides and edges of a perfect cube.
1.0mm Spherical Tip [part# 132796]
The 1.0mm spherical tip is ideal for materials that are fragile or when a sharp cutting tool is too aggressive. Intended for use with model 550 or 551, this tool is similar to the tip used with the Multi-Finger Scratch / Mar Tester. The Scale Beam Height Extension Kit is required [part# 132719].

tools be kept on hand for replacement and standardization purposes.
Sample
Cutter [part# 985000]
Prepare your specimens for the TABER Shear / Scratch Tester, using
this bench top cutter. The Model 5000 Sample Cutter will cut precise,
4.2" circular samples with a ¼" center hole.
An
easy counter-clockwise cutting motion allows you to prepare specimens
in a variety of materials. And optional pads allow you to cut materials
in thickness from 0.001" to 0.25". With a recessed cutting
blade, shielded punch drive shaft, and ergonomic handle, this rugged
instrument was designed for safety and can be used in any production
or laboratory environment.
The
Model 5000 Sample Cutter is not intended to be used for rigid specimens
such as metals and plastics.

Diamond Standardization Plate [part# 132618]
Used to verify the performance of the diamond tool, these plates provide an inexpensive method to determine if the diamond tool is worn. Manufactured from a high-molecular-weight polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) cast sheet, each diamond standardization plate meets the requirements of ISO 4586-2. Sold in packages of two, each plate is 4 inches square with a ¼" center hole and is pre-dried and vacuum sealed. |
