Simple
to operate, this portable instrument can test materials up to 1/2"
thick by 4" square or round.
Before
mounting specimens on the Taber® Shear / Scratch
Tester, the height of the scale beam is adjusted to match the thickness
of your sample. A precision cutting tool, which is attached to a
balanced and calibrated scale beam, is then placed on the specimen.
Operated by an on/off switch, the turntable rotates at a constant
speed to ensure greater accuracy in your test results. By changing
the load on the cutting tool, you can evaluate your materials resistance
to shearing or scratching.
The
removable scale beam is affixed to the instrument by sliding it
onto an adjustable gage block shaft. So the scale beam can remain
in a level position relative to the specimen and turntable, the
gage block can be raised and lowered. Designed with an integrated
bearing, the scale beam can be tilted in a rest position enabling
the operator to mount or remove specimens.
By
changing the position of the sliding weight(s), the load applied
on the specimen by the cutting tool can be selected from 0 - 1000g. |
