The choice of abrading materials should be based upon the wear the
specimen material will be subjected to in actual use. Under ordinary
conditions, a load and abradant combination should run a minimum
number of cycles before the end point occurs. If not, the test may
be too harsh and may not correspond to normal wear.
Wearaser
- The standard Taber® Linear Abraser is equipped
to abrade with a Wearaser. Made from the same abrasive Calibrase®
and Calibrade® material as the world famous Taber
Wheels, this abradant is the size and shape of a pencil eraser and
has approximately ¼" diameter contact patch.
The
Wearaser is available in different levels of abrasiveness
to suit a wide range of material testing applications.
Calibrase®
- a resilient material composed of rubber and aluminum oxide abrasive
particles.
- CS-10F
Wearaser [part# 130684] - mild
abrasive action
- CS-10
Wearaser [part# 130685] - mild-medium abrasive
action
- CS-17
Wearaser [part# 130686] - medium-coarse
abrasive action
Calibrade®
- a non-resilient material composed of vitrified (stone) and silicon
carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive particles.
- H-10
Wearaser [part# 130694] - fine abrasive
- H-18
Wearaser [part# 130681] - medium
abrasive
- H-22
Wearaser [part# 130682] - coarse
abrasive
S-14
Refacing Strips [part#130687] - Sold in
packages of 50 pieces, the refacing strips are used to redress resilient Wearasers and Weardiscs. Manufactured with a pressure
sensitive adhesive backing, the refacing strips can easily be applied
to flat or contoured surfaces.
Crocking Cloths [part#130811] - This
50 x 50mm pre-cut cloth is typically used to determine the color
fastness of textiles, and requires the Crock Meter Kit.
Jumbo
Wearaser - This is the same as the Wearaser, but
½" in diameter. It requires use with the Jumbo Wearaser Collet Kit.
Weardisc
- If you are testing flat specimens and desire a greater contact
patch, the Weardisc should be used. Available in the same levels
of abrasiveness as the Calibrase® and Calibrade®
Wearasers, this abradant is a 3/4" circular disc that
is 3/16" thick. Taber recommends applying the Weardisc to the
Universal Attachment with pressure sensitive adhesive.
To expand the testing capabilities of the Taber Linear Abraser, other configurations of abradants are currently being developed. Coated
Abrasives - Available in a variety of grit, these 1" discs
have pressure sensitive tape on one side and are used with the Universal
Head Attachment.
Diamond Coated Wearaser - a steel pin coated with a diamond particle slurry. Grit sizes from 30 grit (harsh abrasive action) to 200 grit (extra fine abrasive action) are available.
Custom
abradants and configurations - can be developed upon request. CONTACT
